When you think about warriors who protect the world from evil, what comes to mind? It wasn’t nuns with guns, knives, and swords, right? Well,Warrior Nun, a Netflix fantasy original based on the comic book character by Ben Dunn, dragged us into a holy war between heaven and demons with nuns as the protectors of humanity. The show follows 19-year-old Ava Silva (Alba Baptista), who wakes up in a morgue, and while resurrecting from the dead is never easy, Ava goes on to find an ancient artifact embedded in her back. With a dash of supernatural gifts, a few ancient demons, and a religious order tasked to protect the world,Warrior Nunseason 1 had us hooked and ready for season 2. Luckily for us, we weren’t left to ponder a follow-up season becauseNetflix announced the green light for a renewala month after the first season aired. With that, here’s everything we know so far about what’s to come.
Season One Recap
Should you fear nuns in battle armor? Yes. Yes, you should fear nuns in battle armor, but only if you’re a demon. The show’s name was pretty on the nose because nuns no longer rely on prayer alone in theWarrior Nununiverse. The women who join the Order of the Cruciform Sword spend years honing their combat skills through rigorous and brutal training, an attempt to even the odds against their much stronger enemy, demons. It’s an honor but a burden to become a nun, and sadly, while struggling to understand how she returned from the dead and her new place in the world, Ava found herself the enemy of a few nuns.

The relic in her back (which sometimes glow) is, in fact, a halo, an artifact gifted to only the most skilled and worthy humans by the angel Adriel, who allegedly created the Warrior Nun order. Ava, a random civilian and non-believer with no knowledge of the shadow world and lacking combat skills, picked as a bearer was an insult to some nuns because they dedicated their lives to the order and weren’t chosen. Nevertheless, with a target on her back and quite literally, Ava had no choice but to be trained and honor the duty forced onto her.
While no longer fitting in among normal humans and being disliked by nuns, Ava stumbled through her second chance at life. But even so, she found love with her costar and love interest, JC (Emilio Sakraya), a young, free-spirited boy smitten by our smart-mouth nun but being a nun means giving up a lot of worldly enjoyments, such as relationships. In season 1, with demons at their backs, the nuns discover a new enemy when fellow humans become convinced they’ve found a way to heaven. With demons already trying to take over the world, breeching heaven might lead to an added disaster, but humans are known to dabble where they shouldn’t.

Season 2: The Plot
While we’re left to nibble at our fingers impatiently, Simon Barry,Warrior Nun’sshowrunner, showed no remorse when he took to Twitter to reveal he’d watched all episodes forWarrior Nunseason 2.
In season 1, allies were revealed to be enemies, lives were lost, bonds were formed and broken, and everything known was turned on its head. We can expect a deep dive into the angel Adriel, the church’s betrayal, and the Order of the Cruciform Sword’s unraveling in the coming season. Likewise, humans opening a portal to the heavenly realm, believing it will bring about a new world, might be a can of worms waiting to explode. In that sense, Season 2 will hopefully showcase the importance of letting sleeping dogs lie. With demons already trying to bring hell to earth, forcing heaven to come along for the ride might not be the wisest thing to do, but how will our gothic-dressed nuns battle danger from all angles while trying to keep their heads above the water?

Season 2: The Cast
As for the cast, we can expect Alba Baptista to reprise her role as Ava, and other returning cast members will be Olivia Delcan (Sister Camila), Sylvia De Fanti (Mother Superion), Joaquim de Almeida (Cardinal Duretti), Lorena Andrea (Sister Lilith) and Tristan Ulla (Father Vincent). For characters that died, don’t be saddened because they too might return during flashbacks.
But with such a large gap between the release of seasons 1 and 2, we’re expecting new faces to join the cast.
IMDb confirmed several new cast members, such as Meena Rayann as Yasmine Amunet, who played Vala inGame of Thrones, Richard Clothier as Cardinal William Foster (Hector Podmon fromFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), and Jack Mullarkey as Miguel (Toke fromVikings: Valhalla).
Season 2: Premiere Date
We’re still waiting for a release date confirmation, but we’re expecting to see our fierce nuns return before year’s end. Until then, take comfort in knowing season 2 has already been filmed and edited. All that’s left is for someone to push the button that says “release.” Until then, grab your crosses and prepare because the nuns are coming.
