The current predicament of Marvel Studio’sBladehas drawn a comment from the former star of the vampire franchise,Wesley Snipes. TheBladereboot was recently revealed to have lost a second director, with Yann Demange following Bassam Tariq onto a list of directors who have not been able to see through the project. Snipes made his comments on social media, taking a small, playful swipe at Marvel Studios’ inability to get the reboot off the ground.

Bladewas originally announced to be joining the MCU in 2019, but since then the production has stalled for several reasons, from Hollywood strikes, to changing directions, andnow its second loss of a director. Star Mahershala Ali has, however, stuck with the project, and seems determined to see it through to completion no matter how that comes.

There have been several rumors that Snipes could be reprising his role in some way within the MCU thanks to the multiverse, but so far there has been nothing confirmed or outright denied. Based on his new comments, Snipes is at least keeping up to date with what is happening with the reboot, whether he is or isn’t involved in some way.

Blade has Been in Development Hell for Years

While there have been several changes within Marvel Studios and the future output of the MCU,Bladehas been a particularly troublesome movie to get started. While there have been several script rewrites for the film, the need to deliver a solid and successful movie seems to be hindering it more than helping.

The MCU suffered a terrible year in 2023, with onlyGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3performing well at the box office. November saw the franchise deliver a new low with the release ofThe Marvels, which brought in the lowest box office total of the superhero franchise’s history. Now the emphasis is for Marvel Studios to reevaluate their upcoming roster of movies and TV shows and ensure that the projects they put out are well-scripted, without CGI-issues, and can capture the attention of audiences in the way pre-Endgamemovies did.

Blade’s MCU Delays & Production Issues Explained

Blade has encountered many production delays and while some fans might think it is simple, there is more than slaying vampires the MCU movie must do.

It is still unclear exactly why exactlyBladeis proving to be so problematic. When Tariq left the project, it was reported that the script was being completely overhauled due to the original story having very little action, and falling flat with Ali and executives at Marvel Studios. In the last few months, Eric Pearson joined the team to redraft the script again.

Although there is often a belief that movies undergoing frequent script changes, reshoots, and complete creative overhauls are destined to be a failure, Marvel Studios seem to be intent on making sure thatBladeis one movie that arrives in cinemas only when it is the best film it can be. Whether that turns out to be the case is something thatwe will currently find out on July 27, 2025 when the film is expected to debut.
