After “invading” the festival circuit this fall,Michael Moore’s latest documentaryWhere to Invade Nextis getting ready to hit theaters later this month. Following thefirst trailerreleased back in September,Yahoo! Movieshas debuted the second trailer, which showsMichael Mooretravelling all over the world to take other country’s great ideas, and bring them back home to America. After debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, the documentary has been set for limited release on December 23 in New York and Los Angeles, before a nationwide expansion on January 15.

Where to Invade Nextis an expansive, rib-tickling, and subversive comedy in whichMichael Moore, playing the role of “invader,” visits a host of nations to learn how the U.S. could improve its own prospects. The creator ofFahrenheit 9/11andBowling for Columbineis back with this hilarious and eye-opening call to arms. Turns out the solutions to America’s most entrenched problems already exist in the world-they’re just waiting to be co-opted.

Thedocumentarywas acquired by a brand new distribution company named IMG Films, which is lead by former RADiUS-TWC partners Tom Quinn and Jason Janego, and Drafthouse Films’Tim League. The film will go up against13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,The 5th Wave,Norm of the NorthandRide Along 2when it expands nationwide next month. The film marksMichael Moore’s first in six years, since 2009’sCapitalism: A Love Story.

Michael Moore’sFahrenheit 9/11has the distinction of being the highest grossing documentary of all time ($119 million), and the only documentary ever to gross more than $100 million at the domesticbox office. We’ll have to wait and see if the director’s fans will flock to this movie like they did forFahrenheit 9/11, but that all depends on how wide a release it will get.Fahrenheit 9/11was released in over 2,000theaterswhen it debuted in 2004, but we don’t know quite yet how wide a rolloutWhere to Invade Nextwill get.

The documentary has already been getting rave reviews during its festival circuit run, but we’ll have to wait and see how the moviegoing public will respond to this film.
