The first poster forWonder Woman 1984has been revealed. Patty Jenkins is hard at work on the post-production process after principal photography wrapped back at the end of last year. The highly anticipated sequel was all set to hit theaters at the end of this year, but Warner Bros. decided to push it back to a summer 2020 release date to give Jenkins more time to craft the story and to cash in on the summer blockbuster season, which makes sense. With that being said, DC fans have been waiting for some more promotional material for quite some time now.
TheWonder Woman 1984poster was spotted at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas and it featuresGal Gadot’s Diana Princein a crouching position, possibly after an epic landing. In the background, we can see the WW84 logo, which looks like it was taken straight from the 1984 Olympics. In other words, it looks pretty much like what you would expect it to look like considering the timeline of events for the upcoming movie.
Patty Jenkins recently explainedwhy she chose the year 1984 as the setting forWonder Woman 1984. One of the main reasons she chose the year is because “it’s very evocative to what’s important in that movie and resonates with right now.” 1984 is a year in which everything came together in the decade before crashing shortly thereafter, according to the director. She went on and had this to say.
“It was like the top of the top. It was such an incredible time. I feel like there’s something about the excess of that period of time, which is so linked up to where we are in the world right now, that it’s set there for a reason.”
DC fans were treated to some very early footage ofWonder Woman 1984at last year’sSan Diego Comic-Con, which featured Diana Prince in a mall and taking down some villains. The footage has not been widely shared, but this year’s Comic-Con may give us our first real look at the sequel, which by that point will be a little less than a year away from hitting theaters. At the very least, some more production stills and a synopsis should be available by that time.
We have still yet to seeKristen Wiig in full Cheetah modeand we still have no idea how Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor is back from the dead inWonder Woman 1984. There have been theories linking his return to Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord, but that is all speculation at this early stage in the game. Hopefully Patty Jenkins will shed some more light on the movie at Comic-Con this summer when Marvel Studios is preparing to lay out the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 details.
