Last week was an exciting one for fans ofThe X-Files, with the first episodeMy Strugglescreening first at MIPCOM in France and then at New York Comic Con over the weekend. While the rest of us still have to wait three long months before the show debuts on Sunday, January 24 on Fox, it seems the six-episodeevent seriesalmost got a seventh episode. Series creatorChris CartertoldTV Linethat they had a script written for the seventh episode, but the stand alone story never happened due to scheduling conflicts. “It was almost about to happen. We were planning for it. The script was written. I even called people to find out if they were available to direct, and it just didn’t happen. I created an opportunity for two writers that I am close with to write a spec script. If there are moreX-Filesto be made, certainly it will be one of those.”
Series starDavid Duchovnyrevealed atNYCCthat he would come back asFox Mulderfor another season, but he revealed in May that he is more interested in making a short event series like this new revival, instead of a full 20-episode season that would be in production for the better part of a year. This six-episode season started filming in June, withproduction wrappingin early September. Fox hasn’t confirmed whether or not they would order another truncated version ofThe X-Files, but that certainly may happen if the fans respond to the new series.
The X-Files Revival is set thirteen years after the original series run, a thrilling, six-episodeevent seriesfrom creator/executive producerChris Carter, with starsDavid DuchovnyandGillian Andersonre-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder andDana Scully.Mitch Pileggialso returns as FBI Asst. The X-Filesdebuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jul 20, 2025 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The upcoming event series will encompass a mixture of stand-alone episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. Three of the episodes are written and directed byChris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan andJames Wong.
