WhenX-Men: Apocalypsehits theaters this May, it will bring the currentX-Mentrilogy to a close, following 2011’sX-Men: First Classand 2014’sX-Men: Days of Future Past. Before that movie hits theaters, the spinoffDeadpoolwill arrive in February, withGambitalso slated to start production this spring. Movies such asX-ForceandThe New Mutantsare also in various stages of development. There are still many characters from thecomic booksthat haven’t debuted on the big screen yet, one of which is the beloved Cable.Rob Liefeldrecently took to hisTwitterpage over the weekend, revealing his “dream pick” for Cable is none other thanMad MenstarJon Hamm.

Last month, artistGreg Semkowtweeted out artwork based on his friendJeff Wadlow’sX-Forcescreenplay. The artwork featured Cable, Cyclops' son who is endowed with telepathy powers, Domino, an expert marksman with enhanced reflexes, making him an expert in hand-to-hand combat, Warpath, a Native American who has regenerative healing abilities and super strength and Cannonball, who can create force fields and flies with jet propulsion. There is also a woman wearing a hoodie who isn’t a known member of theX-Forceteam, but some have speculated she may beAnna Paquin’s Rogue.

If this artwork is in fact reflective ofJeff Wadlow’s script, then Cable will surely be a major player in this superhero adventure. However, we don’t know if 20th Century Fox has even issued a green light yet, based onJeff Wadlow’s script, or when production may get under way. It seems possible that the studio may move forward withThe New Mutantsfirst, since it has been rumored thatDeadpoolmay help set upThe New Mutants.

It’s also possible thatCablemay be introduced inDeadpool 2, with director Tim Miller revealing in August that he would be “run out of town” if he didn’t put Cable in the sequel. The sequel hasn’t been given an official green light by 20th Century Fox yet, but that will surely depend on howDeadpoolfares in theaters when it opens on February 12. Regardless of when we will see him first, it seems exceedingly possible that Cable may make his big screen debut in the near future.

As forJon Hamm, it isn’t even known if he would be interesting in playing this comic book character. He will next be seen on the big screen in Marjorie Prime,Keeping Up with the JonesesandHigh Wire Act, set to hit theaters later this year. He also recently signed on to star inEdgar Wright’sBaby DriverandThe Incredible Mr. Limpet. What do you think aboutJon Hammplaying Cable?
